Are You a Closet Money Maker? (Meaning and Money Can Coexist)

If you work in the self-development or creative space, there’s often this unspoken pressure: you must be here to change the world.
But what if you just want to do good work, get paid well, and enjoy your life?
Let’s talk about that.

Are you a Closet Money Maker?

You know, someone who genuinely loves what they do, wants to get paid well for it, but maybe… doesn’t feel like launching a revolution every time they post online.

Do you have to want to change the world?
Some of us just want to enjoy our work, pay our bills, and never fly economy again.

And if it does help change the world? Even better.

Did I just really write that? Yep.

Should I be ashamed?

Am I ruining the vibe by saying I like meaning AND money?

Sometimes I wonder, if it’s only me?

Because in the self-development world, my world, I see a lot of messaging that assumes we’re all here to start a movement. Lead a revolution. Empower millions.

And hey, some people are. It’s beautiful and necessary.

But maybe you’re not trying to lead a revolution or raise the collective vibration before breakfast.

Maybe you just want to do your thing. To write, create, teach, coach, guide. To do work you enjoy with people you genuinely like. To enjoy your days and live a life that feels fully yours, with freedom, fulfillment, and the option to take an extra-long vacation, just because you can.

That counts, too.

Not every idea needs to be world-changing. Not every project needs to “uplevel the collective.”
Sometimes it’s enough to say: “This matters to me.”
Or even: “This sounds fun.”

Impact doesn’t have to look like a TED Talk. Sometimes it looks like doing your weird, brilliant thing really well and getting paid.

I do care about people. I care deeply about how my work lands, what it offers. I’ve had folks tell me something I wrote hit them at exactly the right time. That it changed something for them. That’s magical, and I love it. It makes my day.

But here’s my deepest why?

I like creating cool stuff. I like helping smart, quirky, thoughtful individuals go further, get unstuck, and make a little magic in their own lives, ideally with less stress, better boundaries, and a solid playlist. And yes, I like money. I like freedom. I like quality groceries and real wood furniture and never sitting in a middle seat on an airplane.

That doesn’t make me shallow. It makes me honest.

So if you’re reading this and thinking, “Oo, same.”
